Human Resources Manager

North Kansas City, MO

The City of North Kansas City is seeking a Human Resources Manager. This position is directly, and solely, responsible for the overall administration and coordination of the Human Resources function for 165 full-time employees. This includes responsibility for benefits, compensation, payroll, workers compensation, employee relations, recruitment, and compliance with all state and federal employment laws and regulations. Other areas of responsibility include working with unions (International Association of Firefighters and Fraternal Order of Police) and wellness initiatives. Successful candidates must demonstrate those innate skills associated with an HR Generalist as well as an HR Specialist. Qualifications: Developed technical, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills. He/she must have the ability to perform well under pressure, the capability to meet deadlines, and the ability to develop and maintain credibility and trust with City employees, City staff, and City Council. Additionally, the successful candidate will have operational experience in the various functions of Human Resources, including payroll. Education and Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of five (5) years experience in a senior Human Resources capacity. Payroll processing experience is required, and union negotiation experience is preferred. A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in human resources, public administration, business administration or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred. Must be a certified Human Resources professional by IPMA-HR, SHRM, or HRCI, or the ability to receive certification within one year of employment. Compensation and Benefits: The starting salary range for this position is $76,332 - $95,418 DOQ. Benefits include medical and dental insurance; 457 defined contribution retirement plans; LAGERS pension plan; vacation, sick leave, holidays and personal leave; long-term disability and life insurance; training and conferences; and numerous voluntary benefits such as flexible spending, short-term disability, and more. The City will pay reasonable relocation costs.
